Camera Upgrade Plan
Some of you may remember that at the January 2021 HOA meeting, we discussed the need to review options for replacement / upgrade of our cameras and explore more modernized systems while finding ways to reduce expense.
Since then, there have been a few worrisome incidents where more modern cameras would have been helpful, including packages missing from the front hallway, the theft of our fire department connection, and the shootout that happened outside the building in June 2024 resulting in a bullet becoming lodged in the window of 301.
The police asked to look at our footage after both of the latter incidents, but we had nothing usable to offer them due to the age and limited angle of the single outside camera.
There is also a lot of crime in the No Mas parking lot behind the building, including regular vehicle break-ins and a situation on January 15, 2025 at 3am where a guy stole No Mas's stack of wrought iron fencing panels (Carissa heard him and called the police, who detained him and made him return the fencing.)
These incidents have created a sense of urgency for us about moving this project forward, and we have now begun the process of updating the cameras.
Here's the camera model we chose:

These cameras have a much wider field of view than our previous cameras, have 12MP resolution, night vision, and record audio. J and Carissa in Unit 304 are donating their time to install them and their network to operate them on. The only expense to the building will be for the materials (which include cameras, cable, fasteners, and switches).
No cameras will cover any personal decks or windows, only common areas. No audio will be recorded in the front hallway or common area rooftop deck. The cameras will not be actively monitored and the footage will only be reviewed as needed or requested. Below is a graphic of all the planned and current locations of cameras in and around the building.
